Course Description
This course will acquaint the student with the overall message of the Pentateuch, as well as introduce the student to other Ancient Near Eastern literature. This course is intended as a survey of the entire Pentateuch, but we will also focus more in-depth at key issues such as authorship, dating, creation, and the flood.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will:
Explain the components of the JEDP theory.
Compare and contrast the creation and flood accounts with other ANE literature.
Know the problems of dating the exodus
Discuss the difference between apodictic and casuistic laws.
Survey the key chapters and themes of each book.
